2016 Salute to Achievement
Monday, September 26th
This year we honored Sean Combs as he takes on urban education while supporting the opening of Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School. Capital Prep is a free, public charter school located in the Harlem neighborhood in New York City providing grades 6-12 with a year-round, college preparatory education. Its' goals are to develop lifelong learners, leaders, and agents of social change. Capital Prep is set to open the 2016-17 school year with 160 students enrolled in the 6th and 7th grades.
The school will be located in the Heckscher Building, which is the home of Boys & Girls Harbor. In collaboration with Capital Prep, Boys & Girls Harbor
will provide students with an extended learning after-school, which includes a strong infusion of performing arts instruction.
"Creating this school is a dream come true for me," said Mr. Combs. "I want to impact the lives of young people in my community, and build future leaders. The first step is offering access to a quality education. Every young person should have the tools they need to succeed. All our children should be able to pursue their dreams. That is something I can impact with this school."
